Being You, Not Me

Blending my enthusiasm of re-finding the place of my birth and all that comes with it, together with my evolved “put it out there early on” approach, reminds me I’m a bit of a foreigner in my own country. After all these years, there remains a long-standing British reserve and sometimes I do forget!

Being back home in the UK, is amazing. If you ever get the chance to go away from home for several years (errr and for the right reason!) then do it, because when you come home, you will feel so alive again.

You re-find all your senses because the place of your birth feels like an entirely new place.

Being back in the UK with its unique sights, sounds, smells and culture is such a wonderful experience. I feel like a kid, but a wise kid. The enthusiasm to re-learn what makes the country such a great place to be, along with the years of experience to look beneath the surface and to see what matters in life, makes this experience truly fulfilling.

Of course, having been overseas for some time, creates a “new me” and having spent the best part of my working life in the US, the 51st US State (Philippines) and other similarly associated cultures, it’s given me a slightly different way about me.

I know I have to be Me, not You, BUT, You must also be You, not Me.

And as long as beneath that front, we have the same values and beliefs then we will always get along and for the long-term.

You Can’t Please Everyone All Of The Time

We’ve heard this so many times, but it’s human nature to want to be liked. But why would you want to be liked by anyone who has different values and beliefs? Just for the short-term dollar?

You see, strong lasting relationships are built on common values and beliefs.

Look deep-down and understand and decide on your values:

  1. Love what you do or don’t do it at all
  2. Be the best at what you do
  3. Give it all you got 24 x 7
  4. Don’t take yourself too seriously
  5. & always, always do the right thing for the long-term

When I meet you, you’ll know I’m obsessed at what I do and that I don’t take myself too seriously. To some that’s too much too soon and I understand. But the sooner you put your values out there, the sooner you can both agree if you’re the type of people who can work

Always Be You

As long as you’re doing the right thing for the long-term, never short-term then you know you’re on the right path.

Tell them what you stand for and your values and if they don’t align, then you need to both move on, after all why waste time with each other if you’re never going to get along in the long-term?

When you know yourself and what you’re values are, you will enjoy everyday. Without knowing yourself and what you stand for, it is so easy to be pushed around and end up on the wrong path, not on the journey to where you want to be.

If you want to reach your fullest potential in life, it all starts with being yourself.

Building The Foundation

When you are able to have a solid foundation of being you, you have built your ship and ready to set out on the most exciting of journeys in life. The journey of going where you want to go. Yes there will be events that will take you off course, however as long as you know who you are and your values, you will veer back to go in the right direction.

Be Strong

It takes incredible will power to stay true to you. It takes courage to front up to rejection and to keep going. But to know you’re doing the right things always, makes it easy to get back up, stay on the right path.

Fears constantly enter your mind; fear of failure of rejection, but you must know deep down that if you’re passionate about what you do and that by working hard for your clients and always, always doing the right thing, you will win through.

The Hustle

Years of experience have taught me patience. I know deep down that I will not retire until I’m into my 80s, as I believe in what I do and love it too. I know people are out there with the same values and it’s just a mater of time in finding them.

But patience without the hustle will not move you along your journey. Wasting time on things that don’t move you along your path is like stopping the engines on the ship. You’ll drift and to restart the engines takes time and anything can happen. Building a business means working hard to have many plates spinning at once and keeping them all going means hustling fast.

You’d better make lots of mistakes because only then are you pushing the boundaries of you and your business. BUT, you sure better learn quickly.

When you are you, you are more likely to have focus and direction in your life.

Imagine someone who is constantly conforming to other people’s expectations. Do you think this person has focus and direction?

When you stay true to who you are, you will know the goals you need to accomplish and how you will go about achieving them.

Stay focused and go deep in your craft, becoming the expert at what you do.

Know your craft, know your market and be OCD

Always love to hear from you. Andrew
